S.A.L.T. Southern Appalachian Loop Trail formerly known as S.A.G.E: Southern Appalachian Glow Expedition is a 350+ mile loop that includes sections of the Art Loeb, Mountains-to-Sea, Appalachian, Bartram and Foothills Trails. It crosses through the towns of Brevard and Franklin, NC. To the best of my knowledge, this route was first attempted as a self-supported fast pack in a counterclockwise direction during peak fall foliage in October, 2004. It was successfully completed as a self-supported fast pack in a clockwise direction in 9d, 8h in early summer, 2012. More information is provided below.
